Starting from November 13, 2023, businesses with an Australian Business Number (ABN) must select their accountants or tax agents before accessing their financial data. This blog will walk you through the simple steps of nominating Roger Boghani as your new accountant following the ATO’s directives.
Step-by-Step Guide: Adding Roger Boghani as Your Accountant
Step 1: Setting Up Your Digital ID (myGovID):
To begin, ensure you have a myGovID. Download the myGovID app from the App Store or Google Play Store and follow the straightforward instructions to create your digital identity. Choose between a Strong myGovID or a Standard myGovID based on your preferred verification level.

Step 2: Linking Your myGovID to Your ABN:
After creating your myGovID, link it to your Australian Business Number (ABN) using the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM). If you have a Strong myGovID, simply access RAM, login, and select “Link your business.” Follow the prompts to complete the process. However, if you have a Standard myGovID or fall under the category of a primary person, you’ll need to contact the ATO directly to finalise the linkage.

Step 3: Logging in to Online Services for Business:
Next, log in to Online Services for Business using your myGovID credentials. This is where you’ll securely manage your tax affairs.
Use your myGovID to log in to: https://onlineservices.ato.gov.au/business/
Step 4: Nominating Roger Boghani as Your Authorised Accountant:
Upon logging in, navigate to the “Profile” section and click on “Agent details.” Under “Agent nominations,” select “Add” to initiate the nomination process. Enter Roger Boghani’s registered agent number:

Verify the details and complete the declaration before clicking “Submit.” This officially nominates Roger Boghani as your authorised accountant.

Step 5: Informing Roger Boghani of the Nomination:
After completing the nomination, it’s important to notify Roger Boghani promptly. Unlike automated notifications, he won’t receive an automatic alert. You have 28 days to inform him of the nomination.
Step 6: Extending the Nomination Period (if necessary):
Should Roger Boghani require more time to add you as a client, you can extend the nomination period by another 28 days using the “Extend” feature. Simply select “Extend” from the agent nomination screen and follow the prompts to complete the process.
